The Moth & The Mirror
http://www.myspace.com/themothandthemirror
The Moth & the Mirror formed after Kevin, Stacey, Gordon and original drummer Murdo MacKenzie were recruited as a backing band for Colin McLeod aka ‘the boy who trapped the sun’ in 2006. Colin eventually signed a publishing contract with Universal and moved to London. They all enjoyed each others company and playing together so much that they decided to continue.
Stacey had been collaborating with Iain Sandilands since 2001, making music in their living rooms and developing their own songs. She introduced him to the rest of the band and ‘the Moth & the Mirror’ were born. Since Murdo consequently moved to London to continue playing with Colin a year later, they invited Louis & Pete to join and have been going strong as a six piece band ever since.
Since making their live debut in October 2006, the band have played T in the Park and Connect Festivals (winning places through T-Break and Your Sound competitions), Dunstaffnage and Sounds in the Grounds. They have gained radio play on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Scotland, XFM Scotland, been selected for icast’s Best of Myspace, as well as making a music video which was shown on BBC 2’s Rapal music programme.
Recent live dates have seen the band play support to Maria Taylor, Ane Brun, Kate Nash & The Constantines. They have also played various concerts with sponsorship backing including The Mill in Glasgow and Edinburgh which was recorded live for video, as was their performance at the Connect festival (both videos navigable from myspace site). In July 2008 they released their first single, ‘Soft Insides’ recorded with Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Super Furry Animals, Belle and Sebastian) on the Collective Records label, which we toured Scotland in support of.
